Animal Care Technician Recruitment :

Applications are invited for various contractual positions for the Animal Facility at IISER Kolkata.

These posts are funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India under a multi-institutional project entitled “Multi-dimensional Research to Enable Systems Medicine: Acceleration using a Cluster Approach”

Tenure of all these posts will be initially for one year but likely to be extended for two more years subject to availability of fund and performance of the candidate

Details of each post are given below:
Name of the Post: Veterinarian
Number of Position: One
Emolument: Rs. 75,000 per month (consolidated) with provision for performance-based yearly increment
Essential Qualifications:
** Bachelor degree in Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (BVSc &AH) as listed in the 1st & 2nd Schedule of the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984
** Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) in any of following disciplines viz. Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary Surgery or Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology with a valid registration issued by the Veterinary Council of India/ Veterinary Council of States
Desirable Qualifications:
** PhD in relevant subject
** Training in laboratory animal management or experience as a veterinarian in Animal Facility of any reputed Research Institute
** Experience in small animal health monitoring and genetic monitoring procedures
** Knowledge of CPCSEA guidelines / CPCSEA registration and approval procedures and functioning of the IAEC
Job Description:
** The Veterinarian will be responsible for maintaining state-of-the-art pathogen-free facility by implementing preventive and clinical health care for the small animals
** Will provide orientation and training to the new students/animal users for proper handling of laboratory animals
** Will supervise the animal husbandry and housekeeping staff to ensure proper health of the animals and overall cleanliness of the facility
** Will assist the users in routine procedures like injections, surgery, tissue and blood collection, euthanasia, genetic identification etc
** Will assist the faculty-in-charge in organizing animal ethics committee meetings and record keeping as per CPCSEA guidelines
** Should be available on weekends/holidays for emergency duty

Name of the Post: Molecular Biology Technician
Number of Position: Two
Emolument: Rs. 18,000 per month (consolidated) with provision for performance-based yearly increment
Essential Qualifications:
** Bachelor degree in any branch of Life Sciences/ Chemistry from a recognized University
** Masters Degree in Molecular biology/ Biotechnology/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry or relevant braches in Life Sciences from a recognized University
Desirable Qualifications:
** Working experience in molecular biology and immunological techniques like DNA/RNA extraction from cells and tissues, PCR and PCR-based genotyping, qPCR, ELISA, Western blot etc.
** Prior experience in working in laboratory animal facility especially in handling small animals and knowledge about animal health monitoring procedures by molecular techniques
** Knowledge of using computers for record keeping and data analysis
Job Description:
** The molecular biology technicians will be primarily responsible for routine genotyping, record keeping of the laboratory animals and ensuring their genetic integrity
** Will also be responsible for routine health monitoring of the animals by molecular techniques under the supervision of the Veterinarian
** Along with routine laboratory work, will maintain office record, store inventory and also take care of the purchase
** Should not be allergic to animal odors/waste products/bedding materials and should be available on weekends/holidays for emergency duty

Name of the Post: Animal Care Technician
Number of Position: Three
Emolument: Rs. 12,000 per month (consolidated) with provision for performance-based yearly increment
Essential Qualifications: Higher secondary/10+2 degree from any recognized board
Desirable Qualifications:
** B.Sc degree from any recognized University
** Prior experience in laboratory animal husbandry
** Basic knowledge of computers
Job Description:
** Animal care technicians will be primarily responsible for animal care and animal husbandry and would perform routine jobs like cage changing, cage cleaning, feeding and record keeping of animals etc.
** Will perform routine procedures like injections, blood collection, oral gavage, euthanasia etc.
** Will supervise the Housekeeping staff and ensure proper disposal of wastes and should be able to operate instruments like autoclave, cage washer etc
** Should not be allergic to animal odors/waste products/bedding materials and should be available on weekends/holidays for emergency duty

Name of the Post: Housekeeping Staff
Number of Position: Two
Emolument: Rs. 6,000 per month (consolidated) with provision for performance-based yearly increment
Essential Qualifications: 10th standard from any recognized board
Desirable Qualifications: Prior experience in working in a laboratory animal facility
** Job Description:
** The housekeeping staff will be responsible for overall cleanliness of the animal facility and will do routine cleaning of floors, instruments, animal cages etc.
** Will responsible for proper disposal of wastes, animal carcasses etc. by following the standard operating procedure of the facility
** Should not be allergic to animal odors/waste products/bedding materials and should be available on weekends/holidays for emergency duty
